MID WEST EXPANSION: First visit to Karalundi

Karalundi College, situated approx. 58kms north of Meekatharra

After an excursion trip to Perth in 2021 where Earbus checked and reported on student's ears, Karalundi College Principal, Dr John Corcoran, reached out for ongoing services, recognising the impact of ear problems on students' education and behavioural outcomes.

Earbus visited the College in May of this year and found high pathology amongst the 100% Aboriginal student population, who come from different communities in Western Australia including Derby, Port Hedland, Bidyadanga, Karratha, Jigalong, Wiluna, Cue, Geraldton and Perth.

With outcomes significantly exceeding the World Health Organisation's benchmark of 4% in hearing loss, middle ear disease and perforations, frequent and regular visits will assist our clinical team in improving the ear health of Karalundi's students as well as provide tools for teachers to support positives outcomes, such as suggested seating arrangements for students with hearing issues.

Earbus is delivering this service pro bono while we seek sponsors to fund the program moving forward.
