EARBUS FROM WEST TO EAST
Earbus CEO Dr Lara Shur and Executive Director Paul Higginbotham with the Hear Our Heart team in Dubbo (from L-R) Audiometry Nurse Amy Barling, Dr Shur, Paul Higginbotham, Project Manager Michaela McGuinness and Nurse Screener Dana Brown
Earbus Foundation of WA finally connected with Earbus Hear our Heart in Dubbo, NSW after several years of trying to bring the two Earbus programs together. Originally planned for before COVID, Earbus Founders Dr Lara Shur (CEO) and Paul Higginbotham made the 7500km round trip.
The Hear Our Heart project began in late 2011 when Dubbo women Rowena Galway and Colleen Bruce joined forces with Teachers of the Deaf Donna Rees and Rachel Mills from the Dubbo Deaf Club to improve ear health services for children in Dubbo and surrounding districts.
We want to thank the Hear Our Heart team for their amazing hospitality and warm welcome – our visits to schools in Dubbo and Wellington were enjoyable and informative. There was much sharing of ideas and resources between the two programs. Our thanks to Amy, Michaela and Dana for demonstrating the program in action and to Donna and Rachel for the wonderful hospitality.
